We are looking for applications for future Liaison Officers based at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation in Borneo throughout 2018.

If you have a passion for orangutans, a flair for customer relations and are a fantastic sales person then look no further, we have the opportunity of a lifetime available. We are looking for people that can spend 3 months in Borneo working alongside some of the most dedicated people you will ever meet.

The ability to attend a face to face interview with our chairlady at our Surrey office and training at our administration office in Hampshire is essential, this must be undertaken at your own cost.

 Job Description

Job Title Liaison Officer
Salary

This is a voluntary position

Flights, accommodation and a weekly living allowance are provided

Working Schedule               

8am – 12pm and 2pm – 5pm

5 ½ days per week

Invariably the role may require the Liaison Officer (LO) to work several hours in the evening depending on work load – as directed by the Appeal.

Length of placement    3 months
Location Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, Sabah, Borneo

 

Position Purpose

The Liaison Officer plays a key role in educating the public about the plight of the orangutan.  They are a representative for the charity at Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre and are fundamental part of the charity's mission to raise awareness.  The LO is also responsible for raising vital funds for the Appeal. The most popular form of supporting the charity is through the adoption scheme. Other ways are to give a donation or to purchase merchandise.  The LO acts as the face of the charity at Sepilok and therefore must act in a professional manner at all times.

In this role there will be NO direct contact with the orangutans.


Duties & Responsibilities

Visitor Education:
To give an educational presentation about the work of the Appeal and the work undertaken at Sepilok.
Attend the daily feedings, talk to visitors about the work of the centre and the Appeal and answer any questions.  Engage with visitors about the various projects undertaken and how the public's donations are essential.

Fundraising:
Responsible for promoting and selling the orangutan Adoption scheme, merchandise and Business Partnership Scheme.    

Reporting:
Provide regular updates including photographs and video.
Responsible for collecting information about the orangutans on the Appeal’s adoption scheme

Accounts and Banking:
Responsible for handling and banking cash, processing credit card transactions and keeping accounts .
Issue allowances for Appeal staff at the centre and pay any applicable supplier invoices.


Key Qualifications and Experience

A passion for conservation and orangutans
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Ability to engage an audience and be confident in answering questions
Sales experience
Customer service experience.
A ‘can do’ attitude
A mature and responsible manner
Able to work independently
High level of accuracy and attention to detail

Experience in a similar role would be advantageous
