Wulan & Betty

Wulan, who is 13 years old and lives independently in the Kabili reserve, demonstrates to 5 year old Betty the best way to access some tasty treats.

At Sepilok, as part of the rehabilitation programme, the care team stuff bamboo canes with fruit and vegetables to encourage foraging and improve the orangutans' problem solving skills.

In the wild, orangutans learn everything they need to know from their mothers but when they are orphaned, like Betty, it falls to their human carers and the older orangutans to teach them vital life skills. This video demonstrates this perfectly!
