OAUK in partnership with the Sabah Wildlife Department, introduced a Pre-Release Programme aimed at tracking, monitoring and observing the behaviour of rehabilitated orangutans in the Kabili Reserve at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, in order to identify whether the individual orangutans are suitable for release into a truly wild environment.
Collaborating with the local community and helping to engender a sense of ownership over local wildlife can be vital for conservation initiatives. Our team have been delivering environmental education programmes in Sabah since 2012 and are hoping to inspire the next generation of wildlife guardians.
Over the years Orangutan Appeal UK have helped to provide vital equipment to assist with conservation efforts out in the field. Such equipment has included several rescue vehicles, radio transponders, drones and computer equipment.
With the help of a generous donation made in memory of Stephen Matthews we have been able to provide some more protective equipment for the veterinary team at Sepilok
Our recent work with The Borneo Nature Foundation (BNF) on their research and conservation project in the region of Barito Ulu. This region is the gateway to one of the most richly diverse and remote forests at the centre of the island of Borneo.
