Meet the UK team.......

Sue Sheward MBE Founder and Chairlady of OAUK

Sue ShewardSue is a workaholic and is always on the go, thinking of new ideas and ways to help the orangutans.  She has quite a reputation for being a slave-driver and ensures no one runs out of things to do! She enjoys taking office mascot Basil for long walks, playing golf, frequenting her local pub, and nagging the Appeal staff.

Basil team mascot........everyone say Ahhhhhhhhhh

Basil is 6 years old and is the Orangutan Appeal UK unofficial mascot.  He likes long walks and rolling in muddy puddles.  He is very fond of biscuits and the occasional cheesy chip.  Basil is always very happy and cheers up the office staff when they are having a busy day.

Emily Griffiths BSc (Hons) Manager of OAUK

Emily has worked as Merchandise Executive with Cadbury's and Customer Marketing Manager with Haagen-Dazs. She spent 6 months working at Sepilok, firstly as a volunteer and then as Orangutan Appeal UK's Liaison Officer. Emily has climbed Mount Kinabalu and Mount Kilamanjaro and speaks Malay. She likes dancing, cooking, has a pilots license and one day wants to climb Mount Everest base camp.

Adrienne Powell BSc (Hons) Senior Administrator and general whizz kid

Adrienne (Adie) lives in Lymington with her partner and Old English Sheepdog Boo.  She has worked as a business analyst and auditor and she enjoys cooking, walking, reading, gardening, and motorbiking. She has a PADI dive certificate, enjoys travelling and speaks a little German.

Nick Johnson Fundraising Co-ordinator and stamp expert.....

Nick has a Masters degree in the field of Economics from the School of Oriental and African studies.  He likes dark chocolate and making brownies which never quite make it to the office! Nick recently shaved off his beloved beard to raise funds for the Appeal and likes Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

Steph Bray MA- Merchandise and administration can do attitude

Steph has recently finished a Master’s degree in Victorian Literature where she wrote her dissertation on Anne Sewell’s Black Beauty and animal cruelty in the nineteenth century. She loves animals (especially cats), history, researching, exploring new places and being a vegetarian. She lives in Brockenhurst with her partner Jim and their tiny black rescue cat Sophie.

Kate Wall Education Consultant

Kate is our new Education Consultant and she has just retired from her full-time role as a Principal Lecturer at the University of Chichester. Kate spent over twenty years teaching children with special needs and disabilities before moving into University teaching and still writes articles and books on Special Needs and Autism, as well as speaking at conferences across the UK and beyond. Kate was caught up by Sue's passion over a glass of wine in her local and became hooked very quickly - or in reality, Sue pulled her in without her actually realising what was happening! She is now a supporter of our work and is helping to develop our education packs for all schools and colleges. In her spare time she loves to bake cakes - from family cakes to celebration cakes, enjoys pottering in her garden and a drink in the local.
