Celebrate Easter with our fun activity ideas
We're putting an orangutan-themed spin on some Easter activities for the whole family.
As many of us gather with family and friends over the bank holiday weekend, it’s a great opportunity to raise awareness for the orangutans’ plight and appreciate this incredible species.
Whether you're looking for an egg-citing challenge or a thoughtful way to give back to conservation, we hope that you’ll find some inspiration below.
Decorate Easter eggs with your favourite orangutans
Try painting portraits of orangutans on eggs. We've designed a few based on some of the iconic apes at Sepilok - like Malim! BBC Good Food shares some helpful tips for getting your eggs ready before you start decorating them.
Make your own orangutan mask out of rubbish
Inspired by our chairperson and artist, Jacha Potgieter, who creates sculptures of endangered species using plastic and waste materials, we want you to unleash your creativity and craft your very own orangutan mask by repurposing everyday household rubbish into art.
Gather your recyclables and begin. You will need glue, scissors and our free orangutan mask stencil, or you can design one yourself.
Learn more about one of our closest living relatives
Our educational resources offer lots of interesting facts into the world of these incredible creatures, from their amazing habitat to their unique behaviours. Discovering more about orangutans and their rainforest home helps us understand our role in preserving it. By learning more about them, we can inspire others to care for the environment and take action to protect it.
Raise awareness by creating posters
Once you’ve learnt all about orangutans, you can design fact-filled posters to help others learn too.
Two of our fantastic supporters, Molly and Tilly have already made some wonderful posters to help raise awareness about the challenges faced by orangutans.
Bake orangu-tastic treats
Baking cookies, cupcakes, or other sweet treats shaped like orangutans, can be a delicious and engaging way to start meaningful discussions about conservation. Sharing your tasty creations with friends and family not only will show off your baking skills but will also help raise awareness for the orangutans.
Get arty over Easter
Draw some inspiration from our wonderful supporters who have used watercolours, pencils and even charcoal to sketch orangutans. This spring could be the perfect time for you to unlock your artistic flare or try a new medium.
Crochet your own orangutan
One of our amazing supporters, Beverley, crocheted these adorable orangutans to raise funds which enabled her to purchase essential items from our Amazon Wishlist for our team at Sepilok. This project could be a great way to inspire prospective crochet artists to get started.
Beverly used a pattern designed by Ellenkantarellens.
Tag and post!
We'd love to see what you create this Easter so don't forget to share your designs with us on social media by tagging us in your posts.
