Celebrating 25 years of orangutan conservation
Marking 25 years of conserving the critically endangered Bornean orangutan.
This year marks an incredible 25 years since Orangutan Appeal UK began its journey to support the critically endangered Bornean orangutan.
To celebrate everything that’s been achieved, we recently held a special event in Sepilok, attended by over 150 invited guests. It was a chance to reflect on how far we’ve come, raising over RM14 million in support of orangutan conservation projects across the state of Sabah.
More importantly, the evening was a moment to thank the people who’ve made this all possible – our amazing team and the all people in Sabah, who work tirelessly every day to protect and care for orangutans. Their contribution cannot be overstated; they are at the heart of everything we do, and this celebration was for them.
During our visit, we also had the opportunity to meet the newly appointed Director of Sabah Wildlife Department Mohd Soffian Abu Bakar, to reaffirm our ongoing partnership, as well as spend time with our team at Sepilok to continue planning and progressing our projects on the ground.
As part of the event, each guest received a reusable jute bag, a small gesture, but one we felt strongly about. Plastic pollution continues to be a major environmental issue, and with the Sabah government working hard to reduce single-use plastic, we were pleased to support that message.
We’re so proud of what has been achieved over the last 25 years. We know none of it would have been possible without the generosity of our supporters and the dedication of the people who make our work possible every day. Thank you for being part of the journey.
