Sepilok is currently home to 5 orphaned young pygmy elephants whose mothers were killed by poachers.
 
In August 2017 we ran an urgent appeal to raise funds to help these youngsters survive. We needed to purchase the formula called Nestrum, which is an important part of their diet. These youngsters are from an endangered species of pygmy elephant and there are thought to be only 1,500 left in the wild. In desperate Sabah Wildlife department called on us for assistance.

These little elephants have been orphaned as a result of habitat loss and human-elephant conflict.  Although under law the species is fully protected, the killing of elephants is increasing at an alarming rate, leaving many babies without their mothers.

We are pleased to report that a private donor has now been found who is funding the food and milk for the elephants.

Thank you to all our supporters who helped us to feed the orphaned elephants.
