12 January 2025
The newly appointed Minister for Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, Yang Berhormat Datuk Jafry Hj Ariffin made a special visit to Sepilok on 12 January.
Datuk Jafry led the official opening of Sepilok’s upgraded visitor information centre and the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre’s new entrance foyer.
We were thrilled when he chose to adopt an orangutan and he selected Hujan, demonstrating his personal support for our work at Sepilok and his commitment to conservation.
During his visit he gave a speech highlighting the role of his ministry in balancing tourism growth with environmental protection, alongside agencies such as the Sabah Wildlife Department and Sabah Parks, NGOs, research institutions, and community partners.
“Through these strong partnerships, Sabah is able to promote ecotourism and generate sustainable livelihoods for local communities while ensuring the long-term protection of our unique natural heritage.”
We are proud to be counted amongst these partners and look forward to Datuk Jafry’s leadership in supporting conservation and sustainable tourism in Sabah.
